28/07/09 Why sail to the Caribbean…

...when you can get the same weather, beautiful scenery and the same laid-back attitude to life and work like in Sweden?

The Swedish ‘skärgård’ and the East coast of Sweden have been a magnificent, at times challenging, cruising ground. We are already looking forward to next year’s cruise. Since it is getting more remote, we probably do not intend to keep a blog (…unless there is overwhelming demand).

But first to the winter lay-up in an absolute beautiful, remote and slightly rocky (under water) location about an hour or so from Stockholm (Arlanda airport): Wik-Inn Marina is run as a family business by Ulf. At first you wonder about the ‘latest’ lifting and other equipment in the yard. What we think however is most important, is the expertise and friendly help we have received from Ulf and we feel that Easy Rider is in good hands and will be well taken care of over the winter in outside undercover storage. When we discussed our sailing experiences with Ulf, who speaks English very well, he gave us an important Swedish saying to remember:

There are only two types of sailors in Sweden,
Those who have hit a rock – and those who are yet to hit a rock !

With this wisdom in mind we boarded our plane to London planning already next year's cruise.
Thanks for staying with us and Good Bye for now!
