Madeleine Strobel’s landscape drawings and paintings are based on her deep-rooted understanding and interpretation of her surroundings rather than of actual places.

She aims to achieve a more universal feeling of space, light and darkness. The sea and the sky with their fluidity are well suited to her goal.

She uses different techniques, mostly oils, acrylics, pastels, pencil, charcoal, ink, collages and hand made paper to create her works.

Since she moved to London in 2019, Madeleine Strobel’s new work has been affected by the pandemic. During lockdown in London, Madeleine Strobel has experienced a completely new horizon.

Daily walks in Hampstead Heath became the redeeming feature during the long days of isolation. She discovered the incredible wilderness hidden at the heart of London.

She knew of the ancient trees, the undergrowth and the clearings but was too busy in the past to notice. Her books and paper structures bear witness to her new discoveries.
