Airisto, Nötö - whenever some place is beautiful and enticing

... it is riddled with mosquitoes!
on our way...
the store in Nötö
But let’s start at the beginning. We left Turku after a leisurely stay and headed for Airisto on our last couple of days in Finland. We have been sailing in Finland for the last three years and it has been a wonderful experience, so it is with some sadness that we leave.

We left for Nötö the next morning in blazing sun.We even managed to sail for a few hours despite the lack of wind predicted.
The tiny island of Nötö, on the outer edge of the archipelago sea has been a bronze age trading post until the beginning on the 20th century with a long farming tradition. At the height of its importance it had a population of about 200. Now it has only about 10 permanent residents and a guest harbour for 6 boats, which is free! There is a small grocer’s shop, a ferry landing and fuel, what more do you need...? Weather permitting we will have a look into the 18th century wooden church, which was locked today (...key to be collected at the grocers).

PS: Now that we are leaving Finland our broadband connection (and the blog) will cease until we have established a Swedish pay-as-you-go connection, which may take a few days.
