Plymouth 14ºC degrees - Kokkola 27ºC degrees. The summer has finally started...
...just spent several annoying hours in the bowels of Google to regain access to our blog...
We have made it and hope that it will stay like this for the remainder of the cruise.
Where to start:
On the 29th of May we spent our wedding anniversary on a cruise liner in Naantali, Southwestern Finland. Cruise liner it was but she was permanently moored in the beautiful bay of Naantali. A harbour with everything one needs combined with a “cuddly" old town centre where the first Spa treatments commenced in the 1920’s.
But we could not wait to get to Easy Rider after such a long time in the cold. She was looked after by Perttu Marttila and his crew at Yxpila boat yard (highly recommended). Almost all the work has been done and now we are just waiting for some final ’touches’ before we leave on Tuesday (4th of June)
The 70 cm thick ice cover melted away at the beginning of May and since mid May the temperatures have been between 22ºC - 29ºC degrees! The higher up in Finland, the warmer it is right now. We are dressed in shorts and T-shirts.
This time last year we never came out of our thermals. The locals told us that this situation is very unusual. Spring didn’t take place this year. It went straight from winter to summer and that the depths in the Baltic Sea are therefore 40-50 cm below the mean depths. This is due to the very high pressure covering the north of Europe.
Today was our first ‘uncombed’ breakfast on Easy Rider after a very good night’s sleep.
