Looking N at 32kn of wind |
Saturday (4.6.16). The wind has been from
the right direction from the very beginning: NE and N. Sailing south with that wind
direction is perfect. However, the wind speed has even been upgraded until
Monday! Today it is a gale (30-34kn), tomorrow, strong wind. On Monday it should ease…
for a few days. The temperature is still around 9ºC.
All the weather web sites agree. At least
it is sunny and we are at the centre of a high pressure area of 1024mb.
ER's new look |
We will probably have to alter the proposed
places that we have looked up in our pilot book, places like Silda, Kalvåg and
Vestervågen which look stunning. We will press on towards Bergen. We still have
about 10 days until we have to start watching out for a good weather window to
cross the Norwegian Sea towards Shetland.
I am reading the book written by David
Howarth called The Shetland Bus, a
thrilling account of the British/Norwegian resistance during the Second World
War organized from Shetland, using Norwegian fishing boats to disrupt the
German occupation and to bring intelligence and supplies to Norway. It brings
the whole area where we are sailing this year alive in a completely different
light. They had to sail across the Norwegian Sea in all conditions, in the dead
of winter and total darkness to avoid detection!
