We'd rather stay put another day...

We arrived in Falmouth by train on the May Bank Holiday. The clouds were virtually touching the ground. It was bitterly cold and raw and it rained the whole day.

noIt wasn’t a warm welcome at the start of our sailing holiday. In contrast, Easy Rider felt like home. With the tiny electrical heater that we bought in Norway the previous year, it became very comfortable almost immediately. Now it was time to watch the weather carefully and to finish all the small things that needed attending to, like stowing everything away safely, checking everything including the engine, last minute shopping…and yes, starting our blog.
From looking at the weather forecast in Newton Ferrers, we knew that we could not leave before the end of the week because of strong to gale force winds in the Bay of Biscay and the English Channel onThursday and Friday.

There is a extensive deepening Low (983mb.) west of Spain and an extremely powerful High (1042mb.) over Iceland. The wind is coming from the east, which is excellent for the crossing and which will persist for a while. Fortunately for us, the Low is almost stationary and will start filling and moving west. In short, we are planning to leave tomorrow Saturday the 6th of May (although at the moment the wind is gusting up to 30kn in the harbour). It is supposed to decrease by tomorrow morning.
It wasn’t boring waiting for fair weather. Pendennis Marina welcomes many super yachts. Since we arrived, we have seen these incredible yachts moor alongside us. I suppose that we will have to get used to the generators running the whole night, with deck lighting and at times loud music, because that is what is awaiting us in the Mediterranean.
