Social distancing?!
11.7.2020
It is interesting to watch how different places and people deal with the ‘new normal’ during these strange Covid-19 times.
To describe how we arrived in Sardinia is very telling. It all started with our transfer from our home where we had shielded for three months. A taxi came to take us to Liverpool Station. He was wearing a mask, we were wearing one too. So far so good. Liverpool Station was full of signs and markings on the floor to make sure that everyone followed the distancing rules. But once we stepped into the Stansted Express train, self distancing became impossible. The same happened in
the Ryanair flight to Alghero. The plane was absolutely packed! Wearing masks was compulsory during the whole flight. We felt so exposed as if our whole effort to stay safe of the previous three months had been in vain!

Now we are comfortably staying in a small hotel in the harbour of Santa Teresa di Gallura until we can move back on Easy Rider, which is impossible for now. They operate very strict Covid-19 rules and we feel safe here.
After 2 years of hibernation, Easy Rider needs a lot of TLC! Firstly, we stored as much as we could inside. Slowly we have to move everything out to start finding some space below deck. Easy Rider looks very sad at the moment. Everything on deck is crusted in salt and dirt. The lines are very stiff. Spiders have been at home in every possible cavity while we were away. We also discovered a leak in our salt water cooling system. Fortunately Pierantonio who serviced our engine while we were away will be able to replace the seal this afternoon. He is someone who will not wear a mask, and this makes us feel unsafe below deck when he came to look at the engine yesterday.
Progress is very slow because we are both finding the heat very difficult to bear. The temperature is between 35-40 degrees with a ‘roasting’ sun.. We now take a longer siesta until the heat subsides a bit.
As we are not in a rush and have no deadlines ahead of us we can take everything as slowly as we like! We hope to have Easy Rider up and running by next Friday.
