Still waiting...

10th  - 11th of June

Fishing village in Bönham
It is Friday already and our optimism about getting Easy Rider back to normal have slowly been fading away as today went by. We spoke several times to Rodney who has finally explained to us that the company from which they had ordered the fuel pump didn’t deliver. So we will be stuck here again for the weekend. We hired a car and visited some of the places we would have loved to sail to.

We intended to stay a few days around the Höga Kusten (the High Coast), which is supposed to be the nicest part of the Baltic. This world heritage site is a fascinating area, which has many inlets, lakes, high cliffs and islands.

Today we drove on empty ‘patchwork’ and dirt roads some 200 km inland and stumbled on the geographical centre of Sweden.

We will have to see how much time we will have to get to our destination at the top of the Gulf of Bothnia and how many times we can afford to stop on the way once the repair is complete. The weather has been so exceptionally good, warm (it was 29ºC today and the water temperature is above 18ºC already!), and the wind favourable. The fear, of course, is that it might not last.

One thing is clear: we still aim to reach the latitude where you can enjoy the midnight sun, and we still have 10 days until mid-summer. Here in Hudicksvall already the sun goes down but there is no complete darkness any more.
