Eleven thousand one hundred and eleven steps later…

Norwegian mobile broadband
Special Norwegian gas bottles
After 11,111 steps (honest!) equivalent to 8.92 km and having burned about 2000 calories (according to my iPhone app) and sweltering heat (26ºC) we finally managed to get Norwegian mobile broadband and Norwegian bottled gas. And of course Norwegian bottled propane needs a different connector, different from Sweden, Finland and certainly the whole of Western Europe.
We also managed to locate a chandler, really far from the harbour and is supposed to be the only ship supplier in the whole of the city of Oslo… it must be the plight of small shops in this age of internet shopping.

Glass TV - studio  for the summer
Briefly some information regarding the mobile broadband. This is basically only available to Norwegian registered individuals who have a National Identity Number or in some circumstances your passport and central registration may be sufficient (hint: try NetCom).

Oslo harbour and Aker Brygge in particular is a hive of activity, noisy and eager to see the start of the World Cup and the long distance race of the Oslo Race Week, which starts on Friday and will end on Saturday to a grand finale.  More than 900 boats will sail out of the Oslo Fjord and come back within 24 hours. Considering the preparations, it will be pandemonium right where we are moored. The whole day, scaffoldings, a stage, screens and sound systems have been erected and even a TV station is supposed to start broadcasting from a small glass pavilion, which they are frantically still putting together on our pontoon. By that time we will have left for some quieter harbours along the Oslo Fjord and will watch the race from a distance.

Tomorrow we plan to visit the Kon-Tiki, Fram and Raa in the museum on an adjacent island in the fjord.

PS: The see and hear the stories of these intrepid explorers (Heyerdal, Nansen, Amundsen and their teams) in the museums was an extremely interesting... and also humbling experience. Very worthwhile visit!
