When it’s good, it’s excellent and when it’s bad, it’s awful!

...the weather we mean, of course. After our retreat to Tunaolmen we were waiting for the next day, which promised light winds and sunshine.

And so it turned out to be. In view of our long wait we tried to make good progress and decided to motor-sail, mostly – and after 96 miles in receding daylight we arrived at 23.30 without navigational lights and even the lighthouses are switched off for 2 months in the summer.

Ulvön is a little treasure of an island in the Höga Kusten, near Örnsköldvik.

After a good night’s rest, we explored the island despite a concerted attack of mosquitoes, which we bravely avoided with “Extra Strength Jungle Formula” repellent. Two and a half hours we walked through dense forests, rubble fields left behind since the last ice age and the occasional great view of the islands. This area of outstanding natural beauty earns its World Heritage Site title also to the fact that it is the fastest rising bit of the Earth (9mm a year since the last ice age… which amounts to 245m so far!)

The weather is again closing in and we hope to continue on Sunday towards Ratan – we will keep you posted.
